Department of Anatomical Sciences 

The Department of Anatomical Sciences is devoted to study human body structure in three categories: Macroscopic Anatomy (Gross Anatomy), Microscopic Anatomy (History), and Development Anatomy (Embryology). Anatomical Sciences has been recognized as one of the oldest basic sciences of medical sciences in the world. It is associated with studying and performing autopsy on a body or organ as one of the core educations of medical sciences. The graduates are expected to collaborate efficiently with other disciplines to promote and enhance innovative research and education programs. Being a lifelong learner, respecting human dignity, and considering professional and Islamic ethics are among the core values of the department.

Department of Biochemistry

The Department of Biochemistry aims to apply and develop innovative methods of clinical biochemistry to improve efficiency of collaboration with physicians so that diagnosis process of diseases is accelerated. The department members strive to improve educational programs to train more competent students of Medicine and Clinical Biochemistry. Research projects of the department are designed to inspire a culture of strong academic spirit promoting production and translation of science in both national and international levels.  Graduates of the Clinical Biochemistry are expected to play an active role in promoting health standards through collaboration with physicians and participating efficiently in education and research programs of universities. Therefore, they are supposed to be competent enough to conduct fundamental and applied research. Being a lifelong learner and pursuing a multidisciplinary approach towards fulfilling health requirements of the community are among the top values of the department.

Department of Clinical Psychology

The Department of Clinical Psychology aims to promote and develop clinical psychology both as a body of knowledge and skills. The faculty members are committed to train clinical psychologists whose research advances scientific knowledge of psychopathology and its treatment. The graduates are supposed to be capable of applying evidence-based methods of assessment and clinical intervention.

Department of Community Medicine 

The Department of Community Medicine was founded in 1994. It is committed to the promotion and provision of multidisciplinary education, leadership, service, and research at the intersection of medicine and society. This includes focus on the social conditions and characteristics of patients and populations; causes of illness and contexts of medical care; the ethical and social contexts of biomedical clinical and research professionals and institutions; and questions of allocation, organization and financing of health resources including health law and policy.

Mission:

The Department of Community Medicine aims to achieve the highest standards in educating medical students through innovative social-based medical education, designing and conducting practical social-based research projects.

Vision:

The Department of Community Medicine wishes to promote social-based education and MPH Family Physician courses.

Department of English Language 

The Department of English Language offers education programs promoting English Language proficiency of students in undergraduate and graduate levels. The department members are committed to design and offer well-developed, diverse, and vibrant English classes to improve the students’ command of English in Speaking, Listening, Reading, and Writing. The students receive extensive instruction in English grammar and reading comprehension so that they are able to read reference books and scientific articles in English competently.

Department of Epidmiology and Biostatistics 

The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics enjoys talented faculty members in both disciplines. The faculty members from a powerful inter-disciplinary approach seek to understand a wide range of community health problems, identify the cause of communicable and non-communicable diseases, and evaluate whether interventions are effective. The department strives to improve public health, and develop innovative statistical and epidemiologic methods to achieve this goal.

Department of Immunology and Hematology 

The Department of Immunology and Hematology was officially founded in 2010. Faculty members actively collaborate with departments of Cellular and Molecular Sciences, Microbiology, Biochemistry, and play a significant role in training medical students as well. The department is proudly collaborating with several research centers such as Cancer and Immunology, Cellular and Molecular Sciences, Lung Diseases and Allergy, and Zoonosis Diseases. The department strives to offer theoretical and practical courses in Immunology and Hematology, promote and implement fundamental and practical research projects in related fields, and train competent human resources to meet the requirements of public health enhancement.

Department of Islamic Studies 

The Department of Islamic Studies is responsible to promote Islamic values and culture as well as enforcing commitment to Islamic values and achievements of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The department members educate students in different levels. Some of the core curriculums of the department are Theoretical Bases of Islam, Islamic Ethics, History and Civilization of Islam, and Introduction to Islamic References. Moreover, the department has various cultural and educational programs promoting Islamic values for both faculty members and students annually.

Department of Medical Education 

The Department of Medical Education is responsible to observe the process of medical education in Faculty of Medicine, Kurdistan University of Medical Sciences, and provide educational services to support, evaluate and thus enhance the quality of implemented medical educational programs. The department members strive to tackle educational issues through research, teaching and providing educational support in areas of curriculum development and assessment. 

Department of Molecular Medicine and Medical Genetics 

The Department of Medical Genetics and Molecular Medicine aims to train experts competent in solving problems regarding preventing, diagnosing, and treating genetic diseases and disorders. As a basic scientific discipline, Medical Genetics and Molecular Medicine play a significant role in promoting and developing health, treatment, and wellbeing infrastructures of the community. The department members are committed to contributing to science, designing and conducting innovative fundamental and applied research considering professional and Islamic ethics in order to provide support to medical sciences. The department aims to enhance the quality of medical and counselling services provided to the community so that public awareness and health standards are raised in terms of genetic disorders.

Department of Medical Physics 

The Department of Medical Physics enjoys talented human resources whose expertise in educating medical students and conducting research contributes to developing and enhancing the quality of healthcare standards and services provided to the community. The department members are expected to promote innovative research and collaborate actively with other disciplines and departments to train and educate students in different levels.

Department of Medical Microbiology 

The Department of Medical Microbiology is committed to train human resources capable of providing education and research services regarding infections caused by microbes. The department members are committed to study causes, treatments and controlling methods of infections. Medical Microbiology, as one of the most important basic sciences of medical sciences, contributes significantly to promoting and educating medical sciences. Graduates are expected to develop and promote healthcare standards and services applying laboratory techniques to diagnose and control infectious diseases. The graduates are supposed to be capable of participating in education programs and conducting fundamental and applied research in universities and affiliating research centers.

Department of Parasitology and Mycology 

The Department of Parasitology and Mycology was founded in 1992. The department recruited Parasitologists initially, and Mycologists joined the department later. The faculties, valuing respect and team work, are committed to implement educational programs and train students of General Medicine, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Nursing, Midwifery, Microbiology, Biochemistry, as well as Cellular and Molecular Sciences in the offered degree programs. The department accesses research laboratory of Medical Faculty and is proudly collaborating with Cellular and Molecular, Lung Diseases and Allergy, Zoonosis Diseases Research Centers of Kurdistan University of Medical Sciences. The department strives to offer theoretical and practical courses along with basic technical skills to students of Medical, Para-Medical, Nursing, and Midwifery Faculties. The faculty members are also interested in planning and conducting fundamental and applied research projects in related fields to meet the requirements of public health enhancement. Offering counselling services to other departments and specialists has been a priority for the department members.

Department pf Physiology and Pharmacology 

The Department of Physiology and Pharmacology was officially founded in 2016.The department is dedicated to excellence in training the next generation of scientists and physicians; leadership in making discoveries in basic and translational science for the improvement of health; and quality service to the public and scientific communities. The department has achieved outstanding accomplishments in research areas such as Neuroscience, Diabetes, Cardio-vascular diseases, Digestive System diseases, and Stem Cells.
